HUMIDITY PROOF HAIR

TUESDAYS STYLE TIPS AND TOPICS...
Humidity Proof Hair
Today is the first glimpse of what summer has in store for us... The Heat. The HUMIDITY...
Whether you plan on wearing your hair straight or embrace its natural texture, high humidity can wreak havoc quickly. Indigo the Salon knows how to fight the frizz and keep your tresses looking great despite the weather with the best hair styling tips for humid days.
From preparing your hair for the blow dry to making sure there are no flyaways, make sure your hair behaves even on days with very high humidity. Here are the steps to styling your hair for the best results.
Always Use Conditioner
It’s a good idea to use a clarifying shampoo, Paul Mitchell's Shampoo Two, when humid days are coming, but the conditioner is a must! Use Paul Mitchell Instant Moisture Daily Treatment to impact the way your hair deals with frizz.
Whether you have a dry scalp or an oily one, you still need the moisture that will keep your hair looking good despite the weather.
Protect Your Hair From the Extra Moisture
Even when you’re not using any heat tools to style you hair, you can still benefit from using a heat-protective spray. Its main function is to keep hair from drying out, but it will also keep it protected from the moisture in the air. So one of the best hair styling tips for humid days is to use a heat and shine spray like Paul Mitchell's Hot Off the Press Thermal Hairspray or Paul Mitchell Heat Seal.
Use an Anti-Frizz Spray
Fighting the frizz can be done with many products, but when humidity is high, it’s better to stick to light sprays and serums. Using styling cream or mousse can end up weighing your hair down during humid days and even making flyaways more noticeable. Remember that less is more when it comes to anti-frizz preparation and we love Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum or Relaxing Balm!
Get the Right Hairdryer
If you want a blow dry in humid conditions, it’s important to have the right hairdryer. We use Paul Mitchell's Express Ion Dry and Neuro Dry Dryers... with infrared heat and negative ion pearls, it delivers an extra dose of conditioning technology and is one of the best hair styling tips for humid days. Choose your hairdryer carefully based on its frizz fighting power. If it’s great at that, it will also provide for your other blow dry needs.
Avoid Touching Your Hair While Drying
If your hairstyle allows it, keep your blow dry simple. The more you touch your hair as you dry it, the higher the risk of creating more frizz. A great anti-frizz hairdryer (see above) can take care of most of the problem, but touching your hair as little as possible when you dry it is a good idea in high humidity.
Dry Your Hair Completely
Going outside in humid conditions when your hair isn’t completely dry is a big no-no. You hair should be perfectly dry and at room temperature. If your hair hasn’t cooled down or isn’t completely dry, going out will end badly. This is one of hair styling tips for humid days that’s easy to follow but crucial if you want to keep your hairstyle protected.
Finish With Cool Air
The right way to protect your hair from the effects of humidity is to finish your blow dry with a little cold air. Whether you keep your hands out of your hair or use a round brush to shape it while drying, a little cool air at the end is very important. When you’re trying to set your hair in a particular way, switch from warm to cool in small sections to make it set perfectly.
Use Wax to Tame Flyaways
When you’re going for a braid or ponytail, the best product to use when you’re trying to fight frizz is hair wax. Using Paul Mitchell Dry Wax or Rusk's Being Warped Wax, you can easily fix your hairline or any flyaways in your braids. If you want to keep your natural curly look, you won’t need any wax, simply use Paul Mitchell's Twirl Around, a crunch free curl definer, to your hair before drying it.

HAIRBRUSH 101

TUESDAYS STYLE TIPS AND TOPICS...
Hairbrush 101
There are so many hair brushes to choose from that deciding which one to buy can be overwhelming. At Indigo we often see salon clients with no idea which tool to use because, to most people, round brushes all look the same and flat brushes are generally regarded for combing out wet hair and detangling. But each brush does have specific purposes, and if you know how to use the right brush at the right time, it makes styling at home a lot easier and more beautifying.
Here our Indigo quick go-to guide to Paul Mitchell hair brushes.
Paddle: The 413 and the 427 Brushes...These intentionally flat and wide brushes are great for detangling hair, creating straight and flat styles, and working with long hair. Paddle brushes come in a variety of sizes, so the shorter your hair, the smaller your paddle brush should be.
Bristle: The Tease XL... Bristle brushes are great for creating smooth styles, loose waves, and glamorous volume. They also put strong tension onto strands, which is great for shaping straight styles. The shorter your hair, the smaller the brush should be. Similarly, when creating curls, the tighter you want the ringlet to be, the smaller the brush should be.
Vent: The 407 Styling Brush...These awesome brushes do a variety of things but are most effective for fast blow-drying, wrap-drying, and creating fullness. These brushes are a must have for anyone who has a bob haircut.
Ceramic: The Express Ion Brushes (S-XL).... Ceramic Ion brushes have many of the same qualities as bristle brushes. You can create smooth and straight styles, waves and curls. The extra benefit of these brushes is that they cut styling time in half. As the ceramic barrel retains heat, it means the hair can be manipulated into the shapes you want more easily, which quickens styling time and the ionic compounds help to control frizz.

ROCK THE HAWK!

TUESDAYS STYLE TIPS AND TOPICS...
Rock the Hawk
We all remember David Beckham's inspired revival of the mohawk in the early 2000's, The spiky shape, which featured pointy tips and blended lengths was softer and felt more boy-band than edgey rock.
Thankfully, your Indigo Stylist has a modern reinvention that is both classier and more daring than the faux-hawk. Disconnected lengths keep the shape a bit edgy while natural styling adds debonair polish. VERY rebel....
Wear on your Harley, or at the office.
At home, keep strands soft and manageable by washing with MITCH Double Hitter or American Crew Daily Shampoo and Daily Conditioner. Clean, moisturized strands fall better, have healthy sheen and absorb styling products evenly.
Apply a quarter of MITCH Reformer or American Crew Defining Paste from roots to ends, rubbing ends together to create texture. Push into the center to accentuate the disconnected area or let strands fall where they may.
